Indebted to the wrong people, with his life on the line, veteran of the U.S. Although the ending is good, and does do a good job to make you think, I wish there had been more investment in this MW concept throughout the game instead of just slapping you across the face with the ending. I’m a big fan of Many Worlds / Everett’s QuantumTheory BS as a plot line, and I’d say it was executed alright here, but my disappointment is it’s really only hinted at throughout the story. The main attachment point for the player is the story and your companion Elizabeth. Sorry, but I’m not going to beat multiple waves of George Washington mechs on Hard with 4 pistol ammo and an RPG. The game is generous with supplies until it isn’t, and that was one such case for me. At the last one, after many many attempts, I just said f*** it, and went from Hard to Easy to continue the story. The gameplay holds up, I guess, to 2010’s standards, but as another review commented, some of the boss fights really halt your momentum to progress through the story. Honestly, I am dragging my feet to write this review. Several times through the story, I had to ask myself: is the game just ok, or is it just old? I don’t really know because I completely missed my childhood, but at least I am not blinded by nostalgia. What can I say… Well, it’s a tepid thumbs up. I played this game completely blind and with no prior experience with the Bioshock franchise.
